Hi, I am new to dslr cameras so please be kind to me. My Pentax needs to have the software re-set. Would any of you have a idea of how to do it? I have been through the pentax site and found nothing. I left the batteries out for an hour in hopes it would clear things but it did not work. Thanks-Marc

You mean to the default setup like when you first used it? If so there should be an option with in the cameras menu for doing this.

Not really the default. What is happening is the menue is screwy. Such as the when going to the menue page it is toggling through all the options not stopping anywhere. The settings will not bring a bulb setting up. Actually it is weird. I took the batteries out thinking if I left it for a while it would clear and act like a brand new camera again but it did not happen. What started all this was fixing it to a telescope last night setting up to maybe grab a image of tonights deep impact, the 1/4x20 thread insert broke out. So I removed the rest of it and glued another in. When I turned on the camera is was not itself again. I was not brutal in the repair at all. Not a big problem. True I was the cause of the snapping since the camera was going to be over 6 fet off the ground at the last minute I double ckecked to tightness and over tightend.

Never seen that before...
Anyway, go to the Pentax website and download the latest firmware and install that..

Thank you Jeisner, I did that already in a attempt to fix the issue. Which complicates the issue what is the real problem, what happened when I had the cam inverted and some what jossling about or the firmware update. The web site has none of the attempts to help like I found at the Nikon, Canon or other sites for support of their cameras.

I don't know what you have done to your camera, but I would suggest taking it for warranty repair.. Hopefully they don't find that you damaged it....

One thing comes to mind is to locate the tiny watch type batteries and remove them. Wouldn't that completely re-set the camera? Yes I have been toying with sending it off, but sort of hate loosing it since I had ben having so much fun with my newly re-discovered pass time. Thanks again-Marc

Yeah you would have to pull it apart though.... And reloading the firmware will definately reset the whole device, so I think the problem may be more than software if reloading the firmware doesn't help...
