I just updated my 350D with the new 1.0.2 firmware release.
I forgot to take off my lens while installing the upgrade.

But, I caught the error and removed the lens before I rebooted my camera to initiate the new firmware.

Everything seems fine.

What would be the danger or damage that could be expected if you dont remove the lens during the upgrade? My lens if worth as much as the camera.
I would hate to damage the lens!

Why would you remove the lens when updating firmware?

AFAIK you don't need to.

Not for sure as to why but the Canon Firmware Update instructions tell you to make sure the lens isn't attached.

As long as you don't notice any issues its probably OK but take plenty of test shots for comparing.

add this: you could always just reflash the firmware update.
