Does anyone know if there is a test for CA? or is it simply a zoom in the picture?

Sure, at mid day shoot up through branches above you. The high contrast between the sky and the dark branches will creat CA if the lens doesn't have the right coatings/elements.

The 16-35L has it, sadly.

its not bleeding, but light shifting. It will appear as a red, blue, green, or purple line.

Its very annoying when a camera or lens suffer from this too. My A95 experiences the CA effect in bright contrast lighting but fortunately I've yet to see with my Sigma or Tamron lens ... however the XT Kit lens will give you some when you least expect it.
