Powershot A75 flash burnt

Hi,
On a fine morning when I was operating my canon powershot A75, the flash gave a pop sound :eek: and stopped working :mad: After this, flash does not glow whatever I do. Looks like the flash got burnt or something like that. I called up the Customer service, but they say that since warranty is over I have two options:

1. Send a check for $100 +$10 for repair and shipping.
2. Get a brand new A80 for $150+$5 by returning the existing A75.

Which is the best option? The original cost itself was about $230/- when I bought it :( Is there a way I could buy a new flash from somewhere and put it myself?

Sorry to hear about your situation. :(

There is no way for you to know if it is the xenon tube, the cap, or perhaps the trigger circuit, even if you could replace the parts yourself. Being an owner of an A80, I would suggest you go with the A80. It is a great camera.

Ask them if the A80 will carry a 1 year warranty. If so at least you would have no worries for a year.
