Hi all,
My Canon S2 arrived a couple of days ago and my initial response upon seeing this tiny unit was dissapointment. I own a Pro 90 IS (the predecessor to this camera) and it is quite a large and heavy camera but all the controls are easy to find and don't get in each other's way. This camera reminds me of all those new cell phones that are so small you need a toothpick to punch in the info. The S2 even has controls right where the straps attach so I decided that rather than wrestling with the strap to get at the controls I would just leave it off. I am thinking of getting a fanny pack for long outings if I ever need to have my hands free.
You might get the feeling from the first paragraph that I regretted my purchase but the picture quality seems to be quite good. It is in a completely different league, noise-wise, from my Panasonic Lumix F10. The bokeh on my long and macro shots is silky smooth with the S2.

I love the pictures you've taken, but, it really, really pains me to see both of my favorite subjects together in such a fashion. That "was" an awesome Dragonfly. it looks like its going to be an awesome camera for you.

Hi Bald Eagle,
Sorry the dragonfly met an untimely death but he was a trooper, smiling till the very end. I didn't set him up. He was just hanging around a yard overpopulated with hungry anoles. They are also doing a lot of mating lately, the males are displaying their dewlaps and I will certainly get a shot of that with the new S2 very soon.
I've enjoyed seeing a lot of your flower pictures on the perpetual thread. Keep up the good work.
Hi JTL,
Thanks again for the tips on setting up the S2. I have been very happy with the quality of the pictures so far and will continue to experiment. I did some of the focus bracketing and I guess it sort of works if you don't mind wasting 2 out of 3 shots. I will try changing the distance factor and see how it goes. I still haven't tried the exposure bracketing.
Hi Explorer,
Your picture reminds me a little of the behavior of the "love bugs" of Florida. They fly united and I don't mean the airline. I'm sure Bald Eagle can attest to this since he lives in my state.

Love Bugs are mans attempt to screw things up. they are evil and nasty and there are no known predators, except windshields. and we clean a lot of those. they have acidic bodies, which means, when they hit your car or truck and you dont wash them off, the acid in their bodies will eat the paint. so far, they have found no way of controlling them, at all. other than that, they're always found "pairing". by the way, i have a friend here that wants a closer look at your action pictures. he's from the D.P.A. (Dragonfly Protection Agency) He may have a few questions for you later. ;)

Hi Bald Eagle,
I am no fan of love bugs either but from what I have been able to find out, it wasn't a monstrous plot by the University of Florida to invent these pests.

Love your new super-closeups, particularly the dragonfly. It reminds me of a picture I saw from an electron microscope only yours is in color!
I finally got my first decent dewlap picture taken with the Canon S2.

Its interesting how Urban Legends start. It shows in our education as well. One of our Biology teachers in High School, many moons ago, told us about the Love Bugs and how the University created them. It shows you what you can 'learn' in public school. Thanks for the kind words. This Dragonfly actually landed on my camera bag and wouldnt leave. Great shot with the S2, crisp and clear.
