Seen some pics on dpreview using foamcore. What is foamcore? And what is the photo technique?

The "foamcore" I'm familiar with is similar to corrugated cardboard, except that instead of a "rippled" layer of paper as the inner layer it has Styrofoam, and the outer layers are white. It is used for making models, like scale models of buildings. Photographically it can be used as a reflector for filling in shadows.
