That looks awesome, very impressive. The bike is really sharp and in focus. Did you use zoom? Looks like you did, and for that you get double kudos ;) .

What special settings or directions did you use to get such a great photo? How fast was the motorcycle traveling at the time? Did you use a burst mode? A tripod?

Thanks in advance... I'm waiting for the S2 (my first digital camera) to be delivered from Dell, but am looking forward to using it at baseball games. If you can capture a photo like that surely I can figure out how to get some similar shots at a baseball game, right? I hope so...

This was shot in Av mode at F6.3 which gave me 1/200 sec. I was using continuous focus and shot it handheld following him as he powered out of the corner at about 70-80mph.

I wouldn't go that far... :D
But the 3/2 ratio cropping helps... ;)

Great shots! You said in another thread that you used Panning IS for those, right?

I see some sharpening artifacts, especially around the tires. Is that from your camera settings or did you sharpen when you resized the file for the web?

After they were resized, I added USM at 125% 0.5 0

Ok...being as I am new to using the Av and the Tv mode to control the different shutter speeds etc...Can you tell me why you chose to use Av mode instead of Tv. I would assume you would want to control your shutter speed in Tv to decide if you want some motion or you want to stop motion?

Did you choose your settings for any particular reason. And is there a website out there to help with what to choose and when. I need a little book to carry around that tells me the best choice for different settings :) That would be a money maker for one of you camera experts!!! A pocket sized book to help with any situation :)

THank you!

Elizabeth

P.S. I love the shots great color and clarity :)

It was a sunny day so I switched to Av mode and bumped the F stop up to F6.3 to increase the depth of field and the S2 was still giving me a fast enough shutter speed to pan the bikes with. Then I switched to manual mode and tried different shutter speeds and aperture values to see how they worked out. :D

Very good shots. How did you avoid getting the fences on your picture or aren't there any?

This one was shot a while ago, but there were fences. Shot at F8, 1/80,

Looks like your shot is down at the entrance to the chicane where there are high fences.
My shots are at the last corner before the front straight. No high fence there. :D

Great shots, would not have known it wasn't with a DSLR if you hadn't said so.

Heres one i got recently in NZ was alot of fun practicing my panning skills on a subject that is up and down and travelling in excess of 110mph.Untouched and a bit raw but i think it's an ok shot considering i am a newbie at this.
