I updated mine tonight to the new version 1.0.2 that fixed a few issues since the cameras release. Took a bunch of pictures indoors and all seems fine even noticed my Sigma 18-125mm back focusing when shooting in AF wide open doesn't seem to be prevalent ... ... wishful hoping I don't know but I'll take it if thats the case. Further testing on that one for sure.

What is this new firmware supposed to fix??? And could you discribe your 18-125 issue... its back focusing now? was it before the firmware update?
EDIT -
Ahhhh.... I see
From Canons website - here (http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=DownloadDetailAct&fcategoryid=314&modelid=11154#firmware)
EOS Digital Rebel XT firmware update incorporates the following improvements:
1. Fixes the phenomenon of extreme underexposure when using some lenses.
2. Fixes the phenomenon of auto power off function failure when auto power off is set more than 2 minutes.
3. Fixes the phenomenon of incorrect white balance when using an external flash.

The 18-125 has a tendancy to backfocus when wide open and near widest angle, so maybe wide open and less than 25mm or so... It has this tendancy on Pentax aswell (I have heard maybe on Nikon too) it is not limited to Canon, so I doubt a firmware fix would fix it as it is an issue with the lens itself. I guess unless Canon actually wrote a fix in their firmware for this specific lens... I would have thought Canon would not help Sigma like that, not good business sense really since it is Sigma's problem...

Yea what jeisner said to a tee ... it just seemed to do better. Probably wishful thinking on my part.

To everyone that updated their firmware to 1.0.2. Does your camera name show up OK in the EXIF info. My firmware was updated when I sent my XT in for service and now the camera name shows up as "unknown". I'm just curious to see if its just my camera or if it a problem with the 1.0.2 version of the firmware.

I just checked via the Canon XZoom Browser and it shows up properly.

Incorrect white balance? I've never had that problem with flash. I have had some interesting colour effects though but from flash plus daylight plus other light sources which made the photo multi-coloured but the subject was perfectly balanced.

Is that the internal flash as this applies to an external one.

Try this: take a few pictures with the camera then plug in the USB cable. When the pop up download menu shows up choose the option on the second tab to set the program to the camera.
The EXIF data wasn't showing up on some test images I uploaded to PBase and this method corrected it.

I used the internal flash on this photo but I have the external too. Faces have been blurred to protect identities.

Ok, I'm thoroughly confused now. Canon has 1.1.1 as the latest firmware on their web page. Would that not be newer that 1.0.2????? I have been seeing some wildly colored backgrounds when shooting with my 550EX and what someone said about white balance not being correct caught my interest. What is happening is when shooting in a gym with sodium lights the subjects come out fairly ok but the backgrounds have this awful heavy yellow cast to them. I've also seen the "backfocus" behaviour with my newer 50mm 1.8 lens that I just used for the first time last month on a shoot. Shooting in the same gym with my old trusty G2 I never saw this background problem using an older 380EX flash unit. Please advise. Thanks.

Installing the firmware update on my XT (there's only been one so far - it's 1.0.2) didn't change the occassionally strange (usually too warm) WB I get when using an external flash (at first I thought it did.) I do seem to get better exposure on some shots but my 50mm 1.8 II still has focus issues at times. The better exposure is the only difference I notice (oh - also the auto-shutoff works now at 2 min.)

Where are you guys finding the firmware upgrade? I go to the Canon USA site and I see it, but I can't download it. Any ideas?

If your using Internet Explorer you have to more than likely turn off the built pop blocker. Just re-enable it afterward.

my 350d came with the 1.0.2 firmware and the camera suffers from lockups  dunno if it is the Sigma 18-125 or the kingston GF card or just a crap firmware.
