Noticed that both the 20D and Rebel XT have dropped in price slightly on BuyDig.com.

Is this a sign that a new D-SLR from Canon is on the way? Rebel XT is only a few months old, so a replacement for it wouldn't make much sense at this point. But the 20D has been out for almost a year (and also has the $100 rebate) - so a replacement wouldn't be a surprise. Perhaps a 30D??

20D is now $1283 before rebate on Buydig.com
Rebel XT is $778 for the silver body ($789 for black)

I'm curious since if there is a 20D replacement in the new month or two, should drop the 20D prices once a replacement one is released.

Yes, the 20D replacement is coming, now what features it will contain is the question. How much more blending with the 1 series will occur? 7 cross type sensors? Big viewfinder? Better optional grip or built in vertical grip?
I hope they keep the 8mp, anymore and it would be a waste of space for me and many others.

It should be announced this fall and probably release this time next year.
The reason the 350D dropped is to compete with Nikon and Pentax pricing and to allow for 'summer sale' trends. People just eat that stuff up. :p

well... at current levels, the Rebel XT is becoming very tempting... ;)

but if a 20D replacements comes and drops the 20D price to sub $1000 - i can afford to wait and get a 20D that way (current price is a little too steep to justify right now, even though I prefer the ergos of the 20D since it's feels like my Elan7)...

a Rebel XT for $780ish from a reputable online store (buydig) is looking VERY tempting to me right now... i'm tempted to just order it ;)

will prices drop even further for the XT? and/or will the 20D drop to below $1000 before the end of summer?

There are three things in life that are certain:

1. Death
2. Taxes
3. Price reductions on electronic goods.

Maybe this has something to do with it...

D70 body = $749. D70 with 18-70 DX Nikkor = $999 after $100 rebate.

The current rumor is that the "N" guys are looking to compete in the $1500 area with a replacement for the D100. Called the D80, it will have an 8+MP CMOS sensor with a 5MP fast crop mode (ala D2X).

Some fun...ay?

P.S. You have to love rumors. Especially when they under-estimate reality.
