I am still a relatively new user of the Panasonic FZ20. I have been having difficulty taking some pictures outside in bright sunlight. The problem is trying to see the screen. It's almost like I need a hood or something to block the sunlight so the subject(s) can be seen on the screen. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I don't have a 20 but I do have a 5.
By personal choice I most always use viewfinder instead of the screen. In bright areas, this works well. I would assume the 20 has the same option as on the 5 to swap between screen and viewfinder.

You can adjust the intensity of the LCD by using MENU; etc. However, the camera will reset to default when you turn it off. Normally, I use the viewfinder when outdoors but the resolution on the FZ20 is disappointing and I think the MF assist (enlarging the centre 8 times) is annoying than helping.
Use the viewfinder, it will aslo help steady the camera for more sharp pictures.
Low light and bright light are not exactly strong areas for this camera. I rarely use the LCD, use the EVF 99% of the time; you see better but I also notice it allows me to focus on my subject easier...and adds an additional stablizing factor.

I, too, find it impossible to see the image on the screen of my Canon PowerShot400 in bright sunlight. Some posters have suggested using the view finder, but on my camera, that is simply too small. What I'd really like is what the original poster suggested, "some sort of hood" for the screen. Is such a thing available? Thanks.

There are hoods for the LCD .. Hoodman is an outfit that makes them...but you should use the EVF ....the resolution on the LCD is just not good enough to be able to adjust the camera.
Myself I also find you need a eyecup to help you see the EVF the best you can.
The LCD just is not a good tool at least IMHO.

I've got my FZ7 for two weeks now.Yesterday i noticed something that i'ven't noticed before. When i turn the camera from dark to sunlighted areas the LCD monitor changes ,it flickers and there is a very low sound like a spark along with it.The maniual mentions that the flicker could happen but it says nothing about the low sound part.It troubles me.Is this something common? It happens all the time
