Hi all,

These shots were taken through a sliding glass door but seemed to come out ok. I didn't want to take a chance of scaring off this squirrel who was displaying some bizarre behavior. Perhaps someone with knowledge of humming bird feeders can tell me if the sugar water ever ferments into something that could make a squirrel drunk.

i'm always surprised to see how many crazy things squirrels can do.

does anyone know if it is normal for a non-flying squirrel to leap 15-20 feet from tree to tree?

I've seen squirrels do that very thing to get the seeds out of a bird feeder. I think they are just incredibly resourceful and determined.

Nice shots!

Hi Lynchbird,

This feeder used to be pretty squirrelproof but over the years it has gotten rusty and just rough enough for some squirrels to get a grip on. I don't think this particular one got to the feed but some have.

By the way, are your silktrees still blooming up in Virginia? Ours are still going strong here in Florida.

Like lynchbird, I have seen some pretty amazing feats from squirels trying (and sometimes succeding) to get into a bird feeder. Even with a squirel guard on it.

Great pictures.

Scatamousche:

Yup, still in bloom. But the colors seem to be fading a bit. I hadn't noticed them doing that in the past.

Hi George, ReF & Lynchbird,

I warned all these squirrels around here that I would turn them into my personal hand puppet if they raided my feeder again. It seems this one didn't take me seriously.
