Big animals beware

I read somewhere the other day that the zigzag pattern in spider webs serve as a warning sign to bigger animals so they stay away. I have never seen this pattern in a spider web before and found it to be neat.

that's only one hypothessis, and not that widely accepted. the stabilmenta(the zig zag thing) reflects UV, and appears (to an inscect), to be like a flower.
