Have you been victimized by the deceptive trade practices of USAphotonation.com? I was recently vicitimized by them, however, I am an attorney. I am preparing to sue them for false advertising, fraud, deceptive trade practices, etc. If you have been a victim of their scam please email and let me know. If you would like to be included as a Plaintiff, I intend to seek class certification for a class action lawsuit, also let me know.

Sincerely,

The so called "Association of Ethical Internet Professionals" also appears to be a total scam. What will they come up with next?

(It is also interesting to note that the website for this false organization is non-existent)

Congratulations. They're now forewarned as this is searchab;le via the web. Forewarned being forearmed I feel this is a very poor method of case chasing.

This page:
http://www.usaphotonation.com/products.asp?product_id=11554

Lists Nikon 8800 for $529 + $100 mail-in rebate.
They call you after stating this is not a USA package,
it is a Japan wholesale package and comes without a
battery or whatever else. Which is total BS. I just
had that happen. The a$$hole on the phone - Bill,
1-800-872-3143 lies about everything and if you
do not agree to buy anything - sais "your order is
cancelled" and hangs up on you.

What wrong with this deceptive advertising is that
the item webpage never states its a package without
the battery. When you do a GOOGLE search for
"Nikon 8800" the link to their site comes as the top-ranked
ad with these words (as of 2005-07-05):

Nikon 8800 Now at $429
www.USAPhotoNation.com
"Brand New & Factory Sealed Get Yours For $429, Now Available!"

Which is clear misadvertising.

USA Photonation is looting money from the customers like anything. I saw the advertisement in the net for a Canon A95 camera and it was listed as 219$.

After a week sales representative called me and said you have to order the accessories then only the order is eligible. He said it was 50$ for a charger and the battery. I even said ok. But when I saw my credit card bill I was shocked to see that USA Photonation has charged me 333$. When I tried to contact them they were not reachable for a week saying that the office is closed. After a week I contacted steve the sales person and I was told that the charger is 50$ and the rechargeble battery was 50$ and the rest for packaging and shipping. I asked him if I want to return what is the procedure he said that it was -15% of the total cost would be deducted.

Eric, I say sue them to high heaven!

The real question is WHY do people still purchase from them? I DEFINITELY agree that they are crooks but there are so many places out there (IE: Eopinions.com, www.resellerrating.com, shopping.com etc. etc. etc.) where you can find ratings and reviews on companies. In addition you can come on forums like this and search all the places to buy and not to buy a camera. I agree that what companies like USAphotonation are doing is not fair and they should be punished for the crap they pull, but what it comes down to is people don't do their research and they try to purchase the cheapest camera they can. If you think about it rationally, if a company is advertising a Canon 350D for $300+ cheaper than a company like B&H (who is reputable) don't you think there is something not right about that? Again to state, I agree that USAphotonation sucks, I hope you sue them and win..but all I am saying is that we as consumers can put companies like this out of business by doing our research and not buying from them in the first place.

This whole thing happened to me with royalCamera.com I ordered by credit card just for the basic unit no packages, They emailed me for a confirmation,They said " I need to verify your card,What is the numbers on the back of the card?" I told them. They said I was buying a japanize menu kind & I need the usa model.Needless to say I canceled but still they have my numbers! Amexelectronics.com is also exactly like usaphotonation, same speech. If I only knew where they live:mad:

I agree USAnation is a scam. I ordered a canon s80 digital camera 11-25-05(best price, many good stars) and was contacted by email about my order. Besides the usual push to buy many pricy ascessories, it turned out the camera came without battery or charger which is supposed to be in the standard package-but you could buy them. Also, the camera was "Grey market" without those things. Also claimed the standard memory cards would not work and that special pricy card was essential.
Good luck in suing them!

This place is a SCAM! The exact thing happened to me that I see happened to others. I purchsed a tv and they called me back to confirm the order. Then they said that the TV I ordered was a wholesale version with the same make and model number and didn't come with a remote. They wanted another couple hundred to send me a friggin remote. STAY AWAY FROM THESE BASTARDS!

Count me in the class of victims even though it was on a TV. They tried to tell me I had ordered a PAL system TV instead of a NTSC (USA compatable unit). Right there on their web page it said it was a NTSC tuner. I shall post a complete review in a few days at their favorite place, ShopCartUSA.com. Live and learn I guess, though I'm old enough to know better...

Please include me in the class action lawsuit against www.usaphotonation.com.

Eric Troutt, please email me to inform me of my participation or at least to inform me of my rights or at the very least, to simply acknowledge that you've read this posting: hotshot77@netzero.net

They are exactly as you decribed in the first email you posted: they advertise faslely and do not deliver on what they market; they are fraudulent on-line merchants engaged in deceptive marketing, advertising, and business practices.

P.S. Please set-up and post an email address. Thank you.

There is no Eric Troutt. He posted once only and most likely will never post again nor does such a law firm exist.

It's a bogus thread aimed at getting people to whine about what we already know from reseller-ratings.

I and my friend bought 2 SOny DSC H1 Cameras online from USAphotonation, a day later I called them up as I had not received any email confirming the order receipt. They asked for the CVV number on the back of my Credit card and told me that they needed it to process the order. I gave them the number and then they told me that I had to buy the accessories if I wanted this order to go through. I declined and he said that my order is cancelled. I asked him to send a confirmation email and he said that he wuld send it soon. But after about 3 to 4 hours, my friend called them, even then they told him that I would receive the cancellation email immediately. But since he didnot receive the same, i called them back after an hour and they said that they would not charge me anything but they could not send any confirmation email for the order cancellation. I am guessing that they are frauds and could play with mycredit card information and harm me. I would help you in all ways to sue them.

Thanks,

Definitely crooks!

I have recently documented my entire experience with the New York BBB. Fortunately, my VISA (Bank of America) supports me 100% over any disputed restocking/ shipping charges with this company.

This place agreed on a price, took my credit card info, then did the ol' Foot in the Door scam. Tried to sell me a "special HD lense" for an HD camcorder that was "extra clear." Once I told him I didn't want all the additional stuff he hung up on me.

Don't waste your time filing a BBB complaint. Rather, file an Internet Fraud complaint with the New York State Attorney General's Internet Bureau:

http://www.oag.state.ny.us/internet/internet.html

Took about 5 minutes. Then I cc'd the complaint to the sales department at USAPHOTONATION. Hope others do the same.

You should add www.royalcamera.com to this lists (CCI Camera). They are a TOTAL scam. They take everything out the box and re-sell it to you at exhorbitantly high prices. And to boot, they curse at you on the phone.

I Have Also Been Scammed By Usaphotonation.com.

Stay Away From Them. They Try To Rip You Off And Also Insist You Must Take Their Insurance. If You Do Not Agree, They Cancel Your Order. Beware They Have All Your Credit Info, And Pin Number. They Also Request Your Birthday For Some Reason.

Yesterday, my friend's wife asked me to help her find a Rebel XTi as a christmas gift for him? She said she was nearly scammed by century21electronics. Same old scam; she found the kit (body, battery,&lens) at a dramatically lower price and makes the online purchase, then gets a "confirmation call" where he claims that it doesn't come with a battery and tries to sell her a $200 battery, then rudely cancels her order when she refused.

I sent her a link I found here to the NY Attorney General Internet Fraud division. I like what i've read so far, so I registered. I hope this advice helps others avoid the low-life(s) at century21electronics.

Funny how this thread was started by a crooked attorney bottom-feeder.

Isn't it interesting that the Eric Troutt that started this thread posted once only and has never logged back in to check the responses?

I find it also very interesting that very few of the contributors to this thread have posted more than once. I wonder what all that means.

Yes, count me in. they advertise a camera as new but do not tell you that it has no usa warranty and does not include the usual boxed accessories!! thet would cost 50 more!! very unethical.

Eric, I just tried to order a Canon ZR500 camcorder from USAPhotoNation.com and the same thing happened. First they called me and told me that it comes with a 3-cycle battery that you need to throw away after 3 uses, so I should order either a 2-hour or 4-hour battery from the site. When I hesitated (this sounded very suspicious that Canon doesn't include a battery and charger), he got very aggressive and said he was offended that I didn't want to buy a battery! He suggested I just cancel the order, and so I of course said yes, cancel my order. I promptly received an email confirmation of my order being cancelled.

My boss told me he's been caught in the same scam before, a couple of years ago.

Please include me if you're still pursuing this!!!
