Hello people,
I bought my FZ20 a few days ago (after using a Dimage Z1) and for the most I am very pleased with this camera. Except one thing: pictures I took outside, with lots of sun, using the lenshood, came out too yellow. The green of the grass is too light-green, not natural. Is there something I have done wrong? I set the WB on sunlight. Thanks for your advice.

Do you have any sample pictures we can see?
You can upload your pictures to www.imageshack.us

O.K., I have uploaded two images to ImageShack. Now what do I do, which code must I put here? Where it says Forum? the problem is I cannot see my images on IS, just the name.

First, I think the images look great. I look at the color on the dogs and even the background, and everything looks fine. I've seen grass look like that, but assuming it is indeed too green, then you must have something slightly off.
A couple of suggestions:
I think I'd try using just the auto white balance. I find that it works great in the natural daylight and outdoors. Perhaps I'm lazy, but I generally use the automatic settings as much as possible on the camera and only go to manual settings and overrides when things are not as I want or expect.
Another option would be to take a white or gray card and manually set the white balance off of it, and see how the shot comes out. This is what I use indoors most of the time. Then I don't have to worry about exactly what white balance setting to use. I can set it custom for each indoor setting I'm in.
And, aside from the WB setting, what about other picture settings in the camera. Specifically, how do you have the saturation, etc, setup. You could just have it set for too saturated.

I think it may be your monitor those photos look nice, but I do not know how they should look.
I almost always use the auto WB.. if it looks wrong thru the EVF just try metering again. The FZ20 seems to do a great job with WB at least I think so.
Some people have said under some conditions the grass is too green with some shots with the FZ20 but the only time I have noticed that is when there is a distinct line between shade and sun.

I have all the picture settings like saturation and contrast on standard. I only used WB sunlight because it was and is unusually sunny and hot for Holland (!) and I figured that maybe I had to adjust the camera. I'll just try the WB on auto next time.
I had these pictures made in the 'sports' mode as my dogs were playing and running. I made some others on shutter priority 1/500 but the color is the same.
Printing them (Canon Pixma 5000) I noticed the same colors, different from the ones I printed before. Maybe it's just that I have to get used to it, if you think the colors are fine.

I saw your rabbit photo Gene, you used saturation low and the color of the grass looks fine to me. I'll give that a try next time.

The photos look fine to me. Maybe it's your monitor. Fine looking dogs BTW.

I would suggest trying to adjust your monitor at these sites:

If you have XP try Adobe Gamma also;
I really use these to get the monitor close to the printed image.

I have used Adobe Gamma but I see no difference really. And my printer gives the same results. But I think this is something this camera does, as I understand it more people mentioned this.

I am not saying I never saw the too much green thing just not very often.
I tried asking folks that complained about the green what filters and such they used and the same of folks that did not get the green result.
But that never got very far.
So let me say that unless I am using a polarizer or an add on lens, I use a Yoshida adapter and a homemade hood and a Hoya multi coated UV filter.
If you get the opportunity to try a combo like that, see what results you get.
I also use auto white balance all the time, at times I see a wrong color cast when composing the shot, when that happens I compose again and its usually correct.

I wish my monitor matched the printed image. Not WYSIWYG.

Change the monitor temperature to 6500K if you don't have sRGB. 6500K is A LOT closer to the printed image color.
I had a monitor very nice monitor(IBM P275) with sRGB and it was very close to the printed image.

I have a 5 year old Hansol monitor, with indeed this 6500K temperature, I have set the colors with Adobe Gamma and I am very satisfied with the way I see my pictures on screen, the same way as printed on the Canon. I often use one of these pictures as background and right now I am looking at a landscape with the same colors as in the photograph.
I was wondering if I should buy one of these fancty TFT screens but as it is, I think I won't, not yet. :p

If you have WYSIWYG already, why change?
Mine is close but not WYSIWYG!!!!!!
