I am looking for a remote shutter release for my FZ20. I have fonud information on the Panasonic version and another (I believe it is Phayee)

My question is this; Does anyone know the pin assignments for the remote shutter plug? It would be very easy to manufacture a remote shutter release if this information is available.

It is not as easy as one would think as the release works with a series of resistors.

But here is a drawing StanStan made for me to make a wireless remote which gives you the answers you need.

Pay attention to the resistors and the 4 segment plug.

How about spending $15 and buy a nice one. I bought one and love it. Works great.

Pin assignment: Contact 4 to resistor network and contact 3 from resistor network. No polaritiy here. Contact 3 and 4 are interchangable. Contacts 1 and 2 must not be connected to any other contact. Contact 1 is at the point

I bought my 4 contact jack in a dollar store. Removed from a hands free cell phone attachment.

There are three resistors [33k 3k 2k] connected in series to contacts 3 and 4. 38k in circuit.

. To focus: short out the 33K resistor Leaving the 3k and 2 k resistors in series and connected to 3 & 4. 5k in the curcuit.

To take a picture short out the 33k and the 3k to leave only the 2k in the circuit.

There is always 2k in the circuit at all times. The values of the resistors does not seem to be critical to the operation of the shutter control.

After construction check the resistance between 3 annd 4 BEFORE using! [multimeter]

I have used my control to 200 feet.

Thanks to all for the info.

StanStan, Montecarloss

Thanks for your help. I had found the Phayee unit and probably will buy it. As an electrical engineer I find myself always investigating what seems to be a simple device to see if I can make a dollar or two.

Your electrical experience should come in handy to MAKE both the wired and wireless.
Made both!

I did repair of numerically controlled machinery. Replaced components but very little design of circuitry.

I see on a post that a LDR was used to fire a slave flash. Do you have any ideas about the circuitry?? Does the FZ20 have to be on manual flash or can a delay be designed in the trigger? I have a small slave flash [200ms delay] and would like to buy a much stronger and maybe fire multiple flashes.

Thanks

Thanks

I went to http://www.pasc.panasonic.com/epartr/ and put in VYC0913 for the part #. I received it pretty quickly. It's a nice remote. Has a clip so you can attach it to your shirt/jacket/whatever.
