This new lens just arrived by UPS. So, I immediately tried it out. Like my Pentax 28-105mm lens, this new 50-200mm focuses very quickly. It is very compact, and it balances well with the Pentax 1stDS without any nose/lens heavy feelings.

Here is the first sample phot with this lens.

Sarah,
Is that some vignetting in the lower left corner, or just some shadows?
Ray.

Ray that is a shadow from our patio cover. Nope the corners are clear on this lens, I checked. Here is another sample.

I suspected that it was just a shadow, but wanted to make sure. Thanks.

Ray.

Here is a 300% crop from the Pentax 50-200mm lens. What do you think?

A 300% crop?! So it's actually 3 times magnified? If true, it looks pretty damn sharp.

MatH-

As I said, the Pentax 55-200mm lens is a rather amazing and fast focusing lens.

Hi Sarah,

Great images from the Pentax 55-200mm lens.

Can't seem to find the 55-200mm listed in the UK, what is the Pentax Model Number?

Its a 50-200, pentax UK have not yet listed it, it is not available here in Australia yet either, still too new for us

Thanks for your reponse and the correction, but Sarah's post refers to the Pentax 55-200mm, a typo maybe?

Ah! I see now, it is a typo, the thread started as the Pentax 50-200mm. ;)

grenadier-

I apologize for the typo! Yes, indeed it is the Pentax 50-200mm lens. Here is a sample photo taken on 07/12 in St Petersburg, Russia with the lens all the way out at the 200mm setting. It was hand held, and the photo shows rather well what that great lens is capable of recording.
