If the A510/A520 are the updated versions of the A75/A85 respectively, does this mean that the A95 is due to be replaced by an A5???

I've been dithering about for a while, trying to decide which camera to buy. I've never owned a digital camera before and the whole technology is quite foreign to me.

I'd just about settled on the A520, having whittled the short list down from 5 or 6 to just that one, when I was reading that many people prefer the A95. I can see that it gets a better review than the A520 but I'm wondering if the A95 is going to be replaced in the not too distant future. If so, perhaps I could wait just a little bit longer.

It will probably be replaced in September or at least by the end of the year... I just hope they won't make it too similar to the A510-520...

It could be a great camera, but I am pretty sure they won't put all theycould on it, so I doubt it will be a huge improvement over the A95 which is already a pretty fine camera :)

The A520 is a great camera and I love it. But if Canon is looking to release the next model in the line (A530?), a few improvements I'd hope to see - aside from the logical extra megapixels that will probably show up - would be:

-DIGIC II processor instead of DIGIC, for faster performance
-Some sort of in-camera redeye reduction feature, like on the Nikons
-Improved movie mode

Really, that's all I can think of. The A520 is a pretty awesome camera. I hope that Canon continues the "A" line in a similar vein.

Thanks Newbie and Jessie. I'm still vacillating between the A520 and the A95, so I might wait a bit longer and see if there is an upgrade. Jessie, I almost called such an upgrade 'A530' - seems logical somehow.

How is Digic II superior to Digic I?

It's just a faster processor; it gives the camera a bit snappier performance. Test it out in the store and see for yourself.

By the way, I was torn between the A95 and the A520 for a long time. I had the theory analysed to death; I had pros and cons and recommendations and reviews till my head spun.

In the end, I decided by going to the store, holding each in my hand, and deciding that the A520 just "felt" better.

Yes, sometimes it's about that, too. No regrets.
