Canon G7

Anyone heard any specs yet on the upcoming G7 and major differences between it and the current G6?

I hope the G7 will be on the market in october. That would be nice. But if they don't announce it till september it will take some time.

I'm curios to see what it will do. 10MP maybe ? :)

Anyone hear anything ? Is there anybody here working in the secret labs at Canon ? :D

Maybe the G7 and the Pro2 will be one and the same (since the Pro1 and the G6 are pretty close) and be around 10 MP with 8x zoom.

I hope it will finally have the focus ring (or maybe a zoom ring like the pro1).

Yah I had that thought in my mind as well. But I think that they might just give the Pro2 manual focus rings and bump up the MP about 1 pixel more than the G7. Also add a bit more zoom on the Pro then the G. Other then that, I am not sure how they would differentiate the Pro and the G.

Perhaps they might just merge both G7 and Pro2 and call it "G-Pro".

Oh yah, I really hope they have a focus ring on G7. Those are real useful in situations when the camera just doesn't focus well by itself.

My guess is G7 will be still 7-mp upgraded with the Digic-II chip, so focusing
and performance will match the SD500. Probably same body with minor
cosmetic changes, improved movie modes for sure. Maybe bigger LCD (2.5-inch ? ) and possible switch to SD cards... ;)

No chance, it will be aimed at the very same people that bought the G cameras in the past and already own loads of CF.

EVF ? I would prefer an improved optical finder plus a centered SLR style
pop-up flash (from S2) to reduce red-eye and eliminate right-side shadows.

Considering that Best Buy does not have a G6 in stock for sometime; and new introductions by Panasonic and Fuji, Canon G7 is likely to be released shortly. I guess, it should be out at least two -three months before Christmas. Therefore, August or September looks highly probable.

I got two words for what's needed on the G7: Image Stabilization!

OK, maybe a few more words: ISO 800 (or higher), less noise at higher ISO's (by whatever means necessary), better on/off switch, even less shutter lag, bigger and much brighter LCD, did I mention less noise? How about even less noise than the less noise I previously mentioned?

Hope it ships soon.

No Lens re-design would be needed. the s80 uses the new 8mp 1/1.8 chip, and the G7 or whatever likely will as well. Still I think that the G7 may well be a major redesign over the G6. Given the capbalities of the G series are almost all available in the A620 now, and the exisitence of the rebel XT, I am iclined to agree that the the G series and Pro1 may be merged together.

Looks very interesting. Now all Canon has to do to best it is to offer the same thing plus make the lens constant aperture at f/2.8, and put some L quality glass on that bad boy, and we're ready to go!

funny thing, I dreamt last night that it was released and named the G9!
I read (in my dreams!) that it had 9MP on the same 1/1.8 but on the plus side they claimed to have the fasted "Clint Eastwood's" of autofocus on the whole P&S market!

And if I remember correctly it was black!

Well thats all I read so far, then it phased into other stuff but who knows, maybe it wasnt a dream... Maybe I was Astral Traveling into Canon HQ. Who knows???
