I have been doing a lot of research on lenses and polarizers, and it seems that I'm just getting more and more confused, instead of more and more informed... I want to have a pemaraal adapter, UV filter, and a polarizer. If I make a combination of certain adapters/lenses, could you tell me if they will all fit together? I just don't know if they are compatible, as some have male threads, and other female threads on the outer ring... Ok, will this work?
FZ20---> Pemaraal 62mm PA Adapter---> HMC Hoya UV Filter---> HMC Hoya Circular polarizer----> 62mm. Snap on Lens cap.
How do you think this would work? Will it all fit together without any additional adpaters? Thanks for your help,
Patrick~~

You are missing the most important item.
FZ20---> Pemaraal 62mm PA Adapter---> HMC Hoya UV Filter---> HMC Hoya Circular polarizer----> 62mm Hama multi-lens rubber hood----> 62mm. Snap on Lens cap.

Is there another hood beside rubber? I'm a metal type of guy, and I just don't like the idea of having some big piece of flexible rubber "pushed" on to my lens. Any SILVER, aluminum hoods out there?
So.... You think that setup will work then, with the hood?
Thanks,
Patrick~

Also, one more thing.
I noticed that the inside of the pemaraal adapter is not painted black like some of the adapter tubes. Do you think this silver color will cause reflections? Even with the lens hood on? Thanks,
Patrick~
How usefull is the hood on the Pemaraal H models actually, compared to said Hama rubber version?

This is a design issue. How can I make a metal circular hood deep enough for 300mm zoom and shallow enough for 36mm? There are none. A tulip in metal or plastic is the only option. Some of the expensive lenses have a sliding hoods built on the lens.

Need a napkin ring? It is useless compared to the Hama. The H series is cute but a waste of money. You can counter by saying that some hood is better then no hood, but I will opt for the ugly functional design.

This is not a problem. When the camera is turned on the lens extends to cover almost all of the internal area. A small gap remains to avoid contact with the accessory. The gap on my design is .59mm, I do not know Pemaraal’s gap. This is not paint. An electrolytic anodizing process bonds a thin coating to the aluminum. It can be done in clear, black and a host of colors. An additional benefit of the process is harder surface. I say surface because the internal structure remains the same. if you are referring to the H hood they coat the inside.

What you are looking at will work fine. Just watch for
1. Make sure your filters are the proper size (62mm), multi-coated is the best and the Hoya should have both male and female threads.
2. You can use a Linear polarizer on your digital camera and usually they are cheaper than circular, if you want to save a little money.
I have the Phayee lens adapter on my FZ15 and the stock tulip lens hoods fits well on the Phayee lens adapter. I am not sure on the Pemaraal, but you might want to check before you buy another one.
Good Luck.

Since I shoot birds and they do not always want to be where the sun would be in back of me or to the side, I have to have a hood on my camera most of the time. The sun is in front of me a lot of times. No I do not shoot directly at the sun!!
I use the Phayee adapter with it's short 'hood' and a Hama hood attached. A 62mm filter screws into the lens adapter and with the 'hood' [72mm] attached I screw in a 72mm Hama rubber hood. Works fine for me.
The real advantage of a rubber hood is that it can be collapsed on one side and left extended on the other. Put the extended side towards the sun/light/glare so little gets into the hood to lessen lens flare. The metal/plastic petal hoods are much better than solid metal but not as adaptable as rubber hoods.
I am not sure if a UV and a polarizer are to be used at the same time. [????]
A digital camera uses a linear and not a circular polarizer.
Is something like this deep enough for max zoom on the fz20? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=706&item=7524094685&rd=1
or maybe this:

In my opinion they are enough and one more option I make my own hoods so I can use a flip down lens cap and find that one like this is more than enough.

This is the item an exact copy of the Hama 3 stage hood.

I'm really confused now. It's split 50/50, some say that I can use a circular polarizer, and that better results are obtained with it over the linear version, and yet the other 50% say that they don't work on digital cameras. Who's Lying here? Is it just a lack of knowledge, or are digital cameras really not compatible with circular polarizers? I would rather go with the circular, just because I like the increased effects it has, and many people hav e said that they like it over the linear.... Please help me get this straight!

The linear polarizer was the original design and dates back to the early 50's. The circular polarizer is a design compromise with an extra foil layer to facilitate split beam auto focus cameras. The polarizing effect fades more quickly with a CPL as the shooter comes into direct line with the sun. When the sun is directly in front or behind the shooter the polarizer is neutralized.
The FZ does not use split beam auto focus so there fore either unit will work on the camera.
The PL is more effective and less money then the CPL.
