I'm in the market for one of the new Canons either the SD500 or SD400. I've read a lot of reviews for both of these cameras and have was hoping to get some feedback on a few of the deciding factors.

Which sensor?
I know that the sensor in the SD500 is 1/1.8 inch ccd while the SD400 is 1/2.5 inch ccd. I've read in various reviews that the image quality of the SD500 is substantially better because of this larger sensor. What I want to know is will this be noticeable to an average snapshooter. I'm looking for good quality snapshots and will pay the extra $100 bucks if these differences will be noticeable, but if we are talking a very slight difference that most people wouldn't recognize, I think I will opt for the SD400.

I've also noticed that the last two generations of elphs S400 and S410's have used the same larger sensor that is in the SD500. Does that mean that the image quality is better on the last generation (S400 and S410's)than on the SD400?

Video Noise or Whine
The two video samples that I've found online from the SD500 are both pretty loud so it was difficult to make out the "whine" that I've heard others complain about. Is this "whine" or noise problem specific to the SD500 or does it occur on the SD400 also?

Cracked LCD's
It seems this problem is pretty widespread, but it seems that this affects mainly the SD300. Has anyone had a problem with the SD400 or SD500.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If anyone is worried at ALL about
their LCD, you shouldn't think twice
about getting a protector at daproducts.com.
Well worth the 6 bucks, and very scratch resistant.

I dont see a protector for the sd400 let alone any Canons on their list of products. I bought the Canon case (blk leather). It has hard inserts inside of it that help protect the camera from cracking screens or pushing buttons.

As to the video; I have taken video on my sd400 and am very satisfied. I didnt find any whine when I played back. I have nice computer speakers and you would expect to pick up that noise but I didnt notice it.
