I am planning on buying the Canon SD500. Can anyone tell me if the SD500 requires the Canon brand NB-3L batteries:

~PJ :)There are many "compatible" NB-3L batteries advertised on the web and they there's no reason that they shouldn't work with the SD500. Personally, I'm too afraid to try any of them without solid evidence that they're better or that they won't cause any harm...but maybe I'm just being overly cautious...

I had no luck with several compatible batteries that I purchased on ebay. They don't seem to charge with the included Canon SD500 charger. The SD500 Canon charger seems to say it's fully charged too soon and when you use the battery in the camera, camera thinks it's running low in a few minutes of use. I'm thinking maybe I should try a compatible charger to see if that can charge these compatible batteries.
