Its a photo only a Mom could love, and a great opportunity to learn how to use the software that came with the Rebel XT. I would like to know how to fix the shadows around his eyes. Is this possible? All I have is Mircosoft Picture it and the Canon software. Hopefully, I will be able to get the PSE3 soon.
I would appreciate any suggestions and/or advise on how to fix this on this photo and any other future photo. TIA

Why not try the trial version from Adobe? I think its 30 days.

I never used the Canon software, but I think you will need to use layers and masking to highlight the shadows. Others can chime in since I am not a PS guru....yet...

I only have photoshop, so I know I could use layers with that software to focus on the eyes with a masking layer. I'm not sure if elements does that or not.
Other software you may consider is Paintshop Pro, which I believe has layers or provides that functionality at a cheap price (maybe cheaper than Elements even).
Another option would be to use Gimp, which is freeware. Although I'm not sure on its capabilities.

Stacy - I don't know anything about Picture It and it's capabilities. I use PS7 and I would duplicate the background layer, then add a new layer in overlay blending mode filled with 50% gray. Activate that layer and with a soft brush and low opacity paint in white to lighten around the eyes. Don't know if this will help or not
