As I understand it the mah number on rechargable nimh batteries is just how much juice they hold and isn't related to energy output. So if a manufacturer suggests a certain number it sould be okay to havea higher number and not risk damaging the camera, as long as the voltage is equal. Is this right, or am i missing something?

--andrewBut actually, the "mAh" spec is a measure of stored energy, not voltage; the voltage output, as you surmised, will be safe, but the battery will last longer if the number is higher.
My understanding is the same as John's.
