Not quite at full zoom...but plenty of detail...

Why don't you go to the camera store yourself with a memory card...stick it in the camera and shoot with the thing...and look at the pics at home instead of listening to a lot of hearsay? I know that's what I do if I'm going to spend $500.00...

Not at all, I'm having amazing focus on my 12x photos.. the only one I have online is here:

S2 INDOORS.. 12xzoom at about 20ft.. OK, maybe 25..... It's of a painting in my house.

Give a few feet, this is a similar zoom with the s1..

I've repeated this sort of focus results between the two cameras, there IS a trend. It's most noticable when you're zooming in CLOSE.. like to a sports player, my son at play... my dogs in the yard from the deck.

Not every picture is going to be in perfect focus... with ANY camera. As someone said earlier.. me, and the others in the groups.. we're novices. sometimes our focusing issues are a result of our usage... or lack thereof.. Lets wait for Jeff or others pro reviewers. They test all sorts of cameras.. they'll tell us if there is in issue.

Maybe you should stop by a Ritz or Wolf photo.. they'll let you play with the camera.. walk around actually use the camera.... their camera's are not tied down. They'll even let you use it for 14 days, and accept it back.. no questions asked.. with no restocking fee... just dirty looks...
The best way to test this camera is through personal experience.

Does anyone know when Jeff (or any other professional) will be testing/reviewing the S2??

Personally, I feel plenty confident to make my own decisions. No professional reviewer is going to shoot in as many situations as I do in an average week. I mean look at the CNET review that slammed the SD500, which it readers give a 9-10. That was a “professional” review. Granted, Jeff and some other reviewers are much more thorough, but still…no one can make a decision for you…

Below are more shots, this time at FULL zoom...straight from the camera...no post processing. Detail looks fine to me...what do you think?

We have a responsibility not to pass on unfounded information...people depend on this site and the membership to give them the straight story...

Honestly, I have had people say to me "look, part of this picture is out of focus" and it was merely a DOF issue...as in they didn't understand DOF or the relationship between focal length and aperture...

from a user review on dpreview, and from another user at imaging-resource.I don't mean to sound overly strident, but did they provide examples and EXIF info? Was there any kind of comparison offered such as shots at various focal lengths? Were these people who had experience with telephoto lenses? When people make claims, just ask to see an example and inquire as to their experience. Just make sure the examples are in context and simply not just poorly taken photos! Thanks! :)

You are posting the same comments on dpreview forum as Montana 500 and people are reacting the same way - now I see you are at it again on the imaging-resource forum posting as Boulder. What are you trying to prove?

At this point, I'll say he's Montana as he's looking for a camera to take on vacation. This is a serious decision, and he wants to make the right one, but I don't think taking every rumor from message forums is a reliable way to judge a camera..

The best way to judge is to try the camera out.. shoot, worse case, you can return the thing, or sell it. In the end, any cost would be worth it to make sure you get the camera that's right for you.

OK, now I think I've said the above about 8 times in response to Montana...'s questions. I'm not going to say it again... he does keep asking the same thing...

Someone mentioned the C-NET reviews.. In general, I don't think they do a very good job... not very detailed....
