Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone out there knows the difference between these two cameras. I have read the review of the W1, and it is almost the perfect camera except that it is slightly big when compared to the Nikon or the Canon 500. The DSCP100 is slightly smaller, but obviously doesn't have the big 2.5" LCD screen (a feature I am willing to sacrifice). Does anyone know if the DSCP100's image quality is almost identical to the DSCW1? What are the differences? And what is the difference between the DSCP100 and the DSCP150?

Thanks

The reason as to why I think the image quality might be similar is because both the camera's specs, except for the big LCD on the W1, are very similar. Maybe the DCP100 has the same insides and is only smaller because it has a smaller LCD screen? (Thus has the same image quality) - can anyone confirm this thinking?

TIA

Tagas - I have been checking out the W1 very closely so was interested in your question. Another difference I see between the two cameras is batteries. The W1 comes with AA size NiMH and can use alkakine AA's. The P100 uses a proprietary Infolithium rechargeable. On digitfotoclub site the Infolithium is $49.85!! To me, this is a killer for the P100 even if it can use a dock. And, you already mentioned the LCD size difference.
Good Luck!!

I considered the Nikon 5200, the P100, the Canon S500, and the W1, and went with the W1 because (i) it starts up so fast you can't believe it, (ii) the large LCD screen is awesome -- the others seem like a joke after you've seen the 2.5" LCD on the W1, (iii) you can use an external flash, (iv) there's virtually no shutter lag, and (v) it supposedly has a great video mode (same as on the top of the line F828(?)).

Go to a local Best Buy, they have all these cameras, play with them, and see what you like.

PS -- I just don't buy into the complaint about the proprietary batteries -- the other features are much more important to me -- how the camera takes pictures, it's size, etc. Who cares if I have to spend a little extra for a 2nd battery on something I'll be using for a few years (the proprietary battery for the P100 lists at $60, but you can get it for less than $40; the AA batteries for the W1 list for $9.00 -- so, you'll save $30 -- you're spending $400 on a camera, don't quibble over an extra $30 for a fricken battery!!!!) -- IMHO.
