:D It still comes down to who is behind the viewfinder. Great article.

And the best thing is... all-in-one's are cheap :D

Actually, I miss the versatility and speed of an SLR. Having said that, if I wasn't planning to sell photos I'd stick with my threesome.

The thing that worries me the most about all-in-ones is they're mostly awful with high-contrast scenes such as a white wedding dress against a dark church background.

I read an article in American Photo last year about Majoli, and have used it in my sales pitches since then, basically with the aim of having the customer buy the camera they need, versus buying what some "expert" told them that they need.

My standard admonition to my customers is to buy the right tool for the job, specifically that great results can be had from most point and shoot cameras, so don't actually jump to the conclusion that a DSLR is the only option.

I wonder if Majoli has tried the Epson rangefinder that will mount the compact Leica lenses..

Yes. That sounds a neat camera but I think he was after cameras that took a standard AA battery.

I'm still after DSLR, as untill now I haven't seen a compact that would meet my needs, and I couldn't disagree more with Majoli when he stated that Digital cameras are great in the night. Why didn't we see any night shoots then? :p
And of corse, even if you are newbie, if you shoot a lot something will come out rigt, right?! That don't mean that I doubt Majoli's profesionalism.

I think you need to check Jeff's night shots with the C 5050. http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/olympus/c5500sz-review/. It seems to be a really good camera.

It performs well for a compact, but times are still too long to shoot a moving object unles you use flash. High ISO shooting is still a priority of D-SLR, though Fuji released a couple of compacts capable of ISO 1600.

Sure but the guy just wasn't doing that. Nobody - as far as I know - that uses a Leica M4P etc does anything other than documentary photography.

You could give that guy a disposable 35mm and he would still beat most of us with flashy d-SLR's.
The eye is the most important tool.

One of the photos that splashed across all the newspapers in the UK was one of Paul Gascoigne (some footballer or other) who'd apparently sword off junk food and booze in the company with some trashy radio DJ (whose name I forget), blind drunk coming out of a junk-food outlet. That picture was taken with a disposable camera that the photographer bought in a shop as soon as he saw what was happening. There was, I believe, a scuffle (which IMO displayed the low class of the participants) and the photo was published after the camera was rescued from the middle of the road. That cheap disposable camera produced a photo that was world-famous.

I don't recall that incident, but football is about as interesting as watching metal rust in my eyes.
It must have been featured in the Scum, but I can't get past the third page. :D

Lol. I believe it was that very paper. Still, you have to admit that The Scum is better than The Daily Spurt!
