I have a Canon Elph with which I have been 95% satisfied. My only complaint is that it is slow when shooting indoors. I have a young nephew, and I always seem to miss the cute moment. Now I am having my own baby, and I don't want to miss any of his cute moments. With that said, I am going to buy a new camera. I want to spend about $400, and get something that works as well indoors and as out. No bells and whistles. Fairly basic. Just good enough to capture all the special moments in my new baby's life. BTW, I think I want another Canon product. Any sugegstions?

If you are willing to go over $400, then the SD500 is supposed to be great and FAST....the SD300 is also good, very small. The SD500 has a better flash range and the picture quality will be better. You can check out samples by camera at pbase.com - go to "search" by camera. The SD line will focus the fastest which is important when catching "babies on the loose". They both also have awesome VIDEO which comes in handy for those "cute impromptu" moments. The A95 is the best camera for the money but I don't think it focuses quite as quickly...others can chime in. Same thing with S60.

@PJROSTKO,
I had a Canon Ixus V3 and have just ordered the Fujifilm F10, arriving this week so I can't give you some samples of my kids yet.
The negative from my Ixus was inside shooting with flash and because baby's and little children most of the time playing indoors (due to the bad wether here in the Netherlands) i was looking for a camera that makes great pictures also indoors.
The reason I ordered the Fuji F10 is because of the great reviews and the positive feedback and samples from some forum members like 'speaklightly' and others.
Now I'm waiting for my F10 so I can give you more details later.

New dad with a 10 week old here.
For the first few weeks our main camera was our venerable Canon S50. Great picts but we missed a ton of stuff.
That's still my camera but I got my wife for mothers day the Casio EX-Z750.
Purchased the camera specificaly for capturing those "cute moments" and we are very happy with it.
The camera is blazing fast, almost no shutter lag, but better yet the Casio has a unique "past movie" mode that has been wonderful for capturing that elusive smile or vocalization. Basicaly with past movie mode you keep the camera trained on the baby. Baby does something cute.... THEN you hit the shutter. The movie starts five seconds BEFORE the shutter was pressed (with the S50 had so many picts/movies that started 2 seconds AFTER the smile/sneeze/whatever was over).
Another bonuse: the 640x480 30fps MPEG4 is good enough for me. I feel no need to get a seperate video camera....
