Hi all!
As far as I know D-SLR cameras I see no reason why they don't have live preview on LCD
I know that all D-SLRs have mirror lockup function wich could be used for live previewing pictures on LCD.
Why D-SLRs don't have that option? Are reasons of technical nature or are manufacturers afraid that more features would repell "pro" users?

It's possible and has been done on a certain Fuji DSLR. But as it stands, LCD preview would just be a big drain on the battery. I could see the incentive on a lower end budget model, but for mid to high end models, there would be little to no interest in this feature.

On some forum I also read, that D-SLR sensors generate too much heat or something to be used for live preview.
As for draining power of baterry... who says preview would be on all the time? I't would be unuasble when utilizing viewfinder which D-SLR fans prefer, but sometimes it would come in handy.

Here's a possible reason why there is no live preview:

See the section called "sensor size", and then go to 3rd paragraph

Seems reasonable.

Quote:
Large sensors used on more expensive Digital SLRs are often of a different design known as full frame - which doesn't refer to their size, but their design - and which require the use of a mechanical shutter. They don't read out and the display the data in real time, only after the exposure so they can't give real time LCD displays or record video. The advantage of this scheme is that the whole pixel area can be used to capture light while interline transfer CCDs use part of each pixels to store charge.

It looks like your prayers have been answered.

I might be tempted IF it works well in daylight.

I just saw this on DPReview as well. Looks like they beat me to the punch. Seems like the price is right. My version had a 2.5 inch LCD, but hey, this looks pretty good.

I guess that's one way around the issue, but it doesn't work 100% if the viewfinder can't see the entire scene. But it's better than nothing.

Actually it's no different than looking through the viewfinder. I think most of us have adjusted to framing at 95%, so a minor problem. There have been many times that this would have come in handy. It's the only feature I miss from my 990.

Much better than nothing. ;)
