I'm a beginner at photagraphy but I'm going to have several months of practicing photography to get better so I'd like something that is advanced enough.
Budget
$200-$400. I'd like to stay around 300.

Size doesn't matter.
Features
How many megapixels will suffice for you?
I'm not sure; since this is my first digital camera I'm not sure how important megapixels are past 3 (see my general usage response).
What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x, Other - Specify)
6x-12x
How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)

What will you generally use the camera for?
I'm taking a trip to 2 national parks and then traveling to Turkey for 6 months. So i'm basically using it for nature/wildlife shots.
* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?
I'd like to make at least 5x7 prints and I'm hoping to make 8x10 prints (unless it costs too much
Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
Mostly outdoor but I would like the option of shooting indoor shots.
Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
A few wildlife shots (mostly still shots).

Are there particular brands you like or hate?
No
Are there particular models you already have in mind?
Canon S1 IS, Panasonic Lumiz DMC-LZ1/LZ2, Fuji Finepix S5100, Konica Minolta Z3/Z2/Z1, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ4/FZ5, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ15 (i'm open to others)
Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)
image stabilization - my hand is shaky.
