I'm looking at putting a flash with my XT. Ideally, I'd prefer a hammerhead flash. I could always get the battery grip for the XT in order to balance the setup - that's no problem. Has anybody any suggestions for good dedicated flashes for the XT? I could get away with a hotshoe flash, I suppose and a flash bracket. Has anybody any suggestions for those too? I'm looking at getting something inexpensive with enough coverage to cover 18mm lens and enough power to illuminate a church. I'd estimate GN 30 (metric) upwards.

If you want 18mm the the 580ex will have to do. It is an astounding flash, I use the 420EX but at wide angle only shots it isn't spectacular.

The best flash bracket out there is the RRRS FB.

So when did you get the XT?

I'm having great success with my Sigma EF500 DG Super on a basic $40 stroboframe quick flip bracket. It is plenty powerful (even for bouncing), had a diffuser panel that you can flip down to shoot at 17mm, and is only $200 (at www.17photo.com - where I bought mine). 3 sets of rechargable AA's get me throught the average ceremony/reception...
