Hi all,

I want to by new lens to D70 camera.
I saw 2 options for my budget (400$):
Nikon - 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED AF Nikkor Zoom Lens
Nikon - 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 D

do you know what is the pros/cons of these 2 lenes?

I would suggest that you try the Sigma 18-125 DC and the Sigma 18-200 DC ($270 and $400 respectively). In the consumer lens department, not all that glitters is Nikon.

Out of the two you posted I'd go for the 28-105. It's a highly regarded lens for it's price point.

But at an actual cropped range of 42mm to 157mm it isn't very utilitarian.

As a second lens the 28-105 might be ok, but the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 for the same price is a better value

Thanks you all,
28-105 was my first chosen, but why not 28-200
this lens has big range, why not?

more then that,
I have been told that is better to use wider-angled lenses.
why wider-angled lenses is better?

What I find interesting here is that this is the first forum/newsgroup I've seen where it doesn't seem to be considered blasphemous to put a third-party lens on a Nikon body.

Personally, I prefer Nikon glass to the 3rd party stuff, but I will freely admit there is some good stuff out there.

that being said, I'd still recommend the 28-105. Well made lens, and fairly sharp.

Of course, being who I am I have to say that primes are far nicer. Get the 50mm and 85mm f/1.8 lenses and you'll be a happy camper. I did some portraits for a friend on Thursday, outdoors with a D70s, and the bokeh on my 85mm prime was hands down better than the 18-70 kit lens. Primes, baby, primes!

George,

Is there any reason why one wouldn't go straight to the Sigma 18-200mm instead of the 18-125mm besides the slight price difference? I would think the 130.00 would be worth having a little more range. Is there any other difference in these lenses besides the range? Thank you in advance for any info...
