P-200, Alternatives?

Hello, my U-40 just gave up the ghost and now produces black photos along with a black LCD.
So I figured it was time for a new camera. Now I'm very interested in the P-200 but as a student I'm not sure I can justify the price as another £60 will be needed for a decent sized MS.

Now the new features and picture quality sound very good but are there any alternatives already out or soon being released, like a lower res say 5MP?

Size is a major issue and the photo quality on my old camera was horrible.
Any suggestions? Maybe non sony?
