The images are soft and chromatic abboration is very visible. Cyan and purple fringing being the most noteable.
Even at f/4 the build-a-bear sign is very soft.
I don't know about the rumors of this lens being a Zeiss design.

It's clear to me who has the better picture of the exact same scene...

A quick look at that small size of an image would be misleading. Chromatic abboration is more noticeable on the H1, and it blew out more of the highlights on the right to get a brighter image elsewhere. The H1 image is warmer, which looks better, but either image looks ok.
If the cool cast were to be taken away then the first image would have looked better.

Good point on the fact that the image blew-out some detail...I still find the Sony easier on the eyes, but when you go through the images with fine-comb, I can see where there may be complaints...
