I would like to buy one of these cams, help me to choose. What does Ixus50 offer more than bigger resolution and LCD-Bright function - these are not important 2 me. ? In various reviews, they write or not about the following features, so I need someone who had both cams to confirm or not.

1) Is it true that SD400 allows to use at least digital zoom when recording video and SD300 does NOT? Optical should not be supported by any of them, ok?
2) Do they have same flash range or does SD400 have longer?
3) Can you attach external flash only to SD400? Reviews say yes, but as both cams look identical I cant see any reason.
4) Any other advantages of SD400?

Thx all!

I really don't think that having digital zoom while in movie mode should be a primary consideration when purchasing a digital camera.

Now, if it were optical zoom... :)

From reviews that ive read I saw that the SD300 took better pics (something about the sd400 having an extra megapixil with the same sensor or something? I really know nothing about it) but to me the pic quality is the most important, that is what you buy a camera for.

Both cameras use the same CCD, but the SD400 creates a more dense image (more pixels). As a result, there is a possibility of more noise, which leads to a lower quality image. The images I've seen don't seem particularly bad, I think image quality on the SD400 is still quite good, and you definately have more pixels to play with for cropping or larger prints. The question is will you use those extra pixels?

I recently bought the SD400 and the reasons I picked it over the SD300 was because of the USB2.0 and the extra novelty features (e.g. my colors mode).

I still have to say for the extra minutes it takes
to download the pics or vids is arguably cost justified.
Definitely a nice new feature- the "My color".
The thing that sold me on the SD 300, was I have
noticed a fair amount of noise w/ the SD400. The 1/2.5 CCD has
enough juice for the 4.0 mp, but definitely pushes
the 5.0 mp a bit too much(hence the softness
and noise). That said, if you can get the SD 500,
by all means that's the one to get. The decision between
the SD300 & SD400 is a no brainer for image quality if you rarely
go bigger than 8x10.

Also remember that the SD400 has the digic 2 processor, i dont believe that the sd300 does. that means the picture take and load faster. i have the 400 and am extremely satisfied. however i have run into problems taking in low light situations and have looked into getting an exteranl flash. the drawback with that is that i bought this camera so it will fit in my pocket i dont want a flahs thats bigger than the camera itself. as the others were saying, the my colors made is really sweet.

The Ixus 40 does have the digic2 processor, i did have one but it went back low light shots vere very poor and noisy and lots or purple fringing in bright sunlight.
