View Full Version : Canon S2 IS vs. Sony DSC-H1
Hi:
Actually i own a Sony DSC-P1 with more than 4 years and 8000 photos.
Im thinking about buying a new camera, and i have saw this two cameras.
What i really need is:
- Optical Zoom (at least 5x)
- Manual
- Video recording (at least 640x480 at 25 or 30 fps)
Which is the best?
Any other camera?
Thanks in advance

Get the S2 IS: 12x optical and up to 48x zoom, manual controls and video recording 640x480 30FPS and snap 5MP photos when recording movies, zoom during movies, rotating LCD (1.8")
Get the H1: Use the memory sticks you have (and save $$$), 12x optical but up to 24x zoom, manual controls, video recording 640x480 30FPS, zoom during movies, large LCD (non-rotating 2.5")

Please confirm if this is true or not. I'm currently on the fence between purchasing the S2 and the H1 (and maybe even the S1), and it's pretty much coming down to the video zoom feature (if the H1 has it - I'll probably go that route). I assumed - like most people - that the H1 had a zoom-while-shooting-video feature, but when I re-read Sony's H1 website, there is no mention of it (and I'm SURE it would be there if it were true - since it's such a nice-to-have feature). Anyway - I hope you're right, so that I can go ahead and order one.
Thanks.

I read the movie zoom feature on the H1 somewhere on the net but I can't remember where. Unfortunately, retailers in my area only have the S2 IS in stock. If you're not in a hurry, I can check it out for you once the H1 starts being displayed. Otherwise, you can always e-mail Sony's support.
