I'm pretty new to the whole SLR camera/lens accessories gig, and I need a quick question answered. I have found several sites mentioning that their 58mm lens (filters/lens/hoods) would work on a Canon Digital Rebel 300D and I needed somebody to verify if it does actually work or if I'm just being scammed. Also, are HOYA lens any good? Appreciate the help.

Thanks

first of all I am guessing you are using the canon 18-55mm lens that came with your camera?

if you look at the lens at the top you will see 58mm in small print, this denotes the filter size of the lens. You can use pretty much any filter of that size from any manufacturers but remember that a poor quality filter could have a negative impact on your images.

Hoya is a decent brand with some good quality filters.

Be carefull that many shady dealers will mark up filters to make high profits on so I would advise you to check reputable online dealers like adorama.com and bnhphotovideo.com for a price check. they carry most brands and should have the exact same filter you are looking at.

Yes I will be using the lens that came with camera. That solves my question and I highly appreciate the tips. Thanks again.
