Hi
I've also just got sand in my new camera. Have you had any response as to what to do? If so, could you please forward to me? Thanks. Catie

I dropped my V3 in the ocean and its got sand all through it. It makes the most hideous grinding noises and the lens won't open and close unless you pull it open manually.
In other words its buggered and the repairman said once sand gets in there your stuffed basically, it would cost nearly as much to buy a new one as it would to clean, repair and replace components out of the other camera.
My upside was i could go and buy the R1 i had been wanting :D
Sorry, i think your pretty much out of luck :(

They should put warnings in the user manuals about sand.

I have a V3 and I guess it's a darn good thing I haven't been to a beach since 1967.
However this thread makes me realize I best not have my V3 on the dinner table when I use the salt & pepper shakers. :)
Best of luck to all of you who are bummed-out beach-goers. Man, you'd think there'd be a cheap way to get the sand out of these things.
