These 2 old barns caught my eye today. I may go back and reshoot when the sky is a little more interesting. It was cloudy/overcast today. I adjusted levels just a little in PS7. On another copy I desaturated most of the color and I thought it turned out nice. Comments and/or suggestions appreciated.

I don't know why, but old barns and fences overgrown with grass, make great "framers" this is one of those. Frame it.

George - I agree that there is something special about old barns and fences overgrown with grass. Hopefully I can catch some nice cloud formations as I think that would really help. Thanks for your comment.

Sometimes the sky just won't cooperate when the opportunity arrises. You can goof around in photoshop or try to crop it out, but it always looks a little like overexposure. In this case you might want to shift to B&W or sepia to see if it makes a difference. But even in color this is a nice shot.

I just love it. Love it. Somebody needs to make a record of these old barns as they are the most under appreciated part of American history.

Stacy - Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. There a lot of them around this area. This has kinda been popping around in my head  for a while now. I found these two and decided to stop and shoot a few. Hopefully, I'll be able to find the time to get some more of these shots.

I haven't been able to get back there and shoot with a good sky, so instead I shot a nice sky and added it to the barns. Yes, I consider this 'cheating' and would never try to pass it off as 1 shot. Basically I took a sky shot and copied it to a new layer of the original and switched blending modes. If anyone is interested in the specific, let me know. Here is the barn with a much more interesting sky. Comment??

I can only dream of being able to do what you did with that photo as far as adding the beautiful sky to it.
Someone mentioned on another thread a while back that I should look for old barns to photograph since I live in Oklahoma. I've seen some really great ones since it was mentioned to me. I'll try to get around to shooting some pics of them.

Mr Peabody - thank you, but I don't consider myself a pro on PS by any means. I have spent a bit of time learning it, but this actually didn't take much time at all and is very easy. I've scouted some other barns to shoot, but I haven't been able to do it yet. I would love to see some from Oklahoma.
Thanks,
Dennis

I like the clouds. What a difference they make!! :D Wish I knew how to do that. Its on my list of things to do and after seeing this, I'm inspired to bump it up to the top. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, I thought it made a huge difference. Now if I can just catch a day with clouds like that to reshoot! It's pretty simple really. PS is nice to learn to use, but you still gotta get it right in the camera!

Thats an interesting shot Thompson.. I'd like to see the environment around the barn a little lighter, but I am sure this is how it was appearing to you that morning, darn an foggy... Still a very interesting picture. I Like it

Thanks. Hopefully this will turn out a little better. Same as other shot but adjusted levels in the RAW before converting.
edit - for some reason this shot has a lot more detail when I view it on my pc. The upload seems to lose a lot of detail. Any suggestions??

Try viewing the thread from another computer. I see the same thing on every photo I upload. However, when I surfed at a friends house and saw the pics I uploaded, they looked as they should. Still don't know why yet.

Thanks Jonathan. I looked on another and it looked like it should. This is the only shot that looks so different between my pc & the forum. I was thinking about pulling the shot off because it looked so crappy when I viewed it here. Thanks again for the advice.

Wow, that sky does amazing things for the photo. It's not cheating if you're only improving photos for your own enjoyment.....

I have pulled several shots off due to this reason before I learned this. :( Does anyone have any idea why this happens, or what can be done to fix it?
