View Full Version : AiAf off in Auto Mode for sd500
I just upgraded from the s500 to the sd500, and of course, I'm loving it, but I had a question about the AiAf. Can it be turned off in Auto mode? I already assume not, but if there is any way, I'd like to know.
Also, if it cannot, when in Manual mode, is everything else the same basically as in Auto mode? I'll play around with it, but I just remember that with my old s500, whenever I used the "M" mode, my pictures always came out bad. I don't know. I don't really like messing around with the, albiet few, manual functions of the camera.

Also, remember that the camera stays in whatever functional mode with whatever settings you last left it in manual mode (this has messed me up several times after playing with color swap, turning off the camera, then turning on later and taking a shot. It would have been nice if they offered a menu choice that let you set the camera to automatically return to the default settings on power-on/off if you wanted).
But, if you want to stay in auto, it's very easy to "fool" the AIAF by focus locking where you really want to focus first. It becomes second nature after a while, but is annoying none-the-less...
If, while in Manual mode, I were to set white balance control and ISO speed both to "auto", and turn the AiAF off, would that basically be the same as Auto mode without AiAF?
Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion.Don't forget about the metering mode...in manual, set it to "Evaluative" to mimic the auto setting...then, yes now you're pretty much the same as auto without AIAF...
This is a really good tip we've come up with here. Hopefully someone like Gary Hendricks adds this to his tips collection...:)
