...or am I just doing something stupid? Take it easy on me please, I'm a newbie.
Anyway, I just got a new Canon 50mm F1.8 and put in on my EOS 20D. When I turned on the camera in the Manual mode I noticed that I couldn't change the aperture. When I shuffled through the different modes I noticed that the aperture would change settings. Is this because its a prime lens or something simple like that? The lens cap was off and I think my ISO was set at 200. I didn't have much time to mess with it because I had to get to work...so I could surf the internet of course... Anyway, thanks for your help! :o

How are you attempting to change the aperture in manual mode. Once you are in manual mode the method for adjusting the aperture changes.
What aperture are you seeing? When you try to adjust it is all that changes is the shutter speed?
I would recommend reading the manual over this issue. Perhaps you are adjusting the shutter and using program shift only.

Dear Bonehead (myself),
If you change the custom settings on your 20D that affect the main selector control, then that might be the reason why you can't change the freakin' aperture setting!

Anyway, I've got it figured out and my new (off of Ebay for $70!) 50mm F1.8 is shooting crystal clear images. My next step will be snagging a F1.4 or F1.2 because these images are beautiful. I can't wait to get the RAW files home and see what some prints look like on my i9900.
Thanks for your time and have a good weekend.

I do not think that Canon makes a F1.2 lens, they do make a F1.0 L lens though, and it's very expensive to say the least. (I use a Nikon F1.2 50mm myself with a Nikon FA camera, and a very bright lens is a joy to use for sure.)

The upcoming sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX has me all happy. ;)
It would go well with my 20 f/1.8 and 50 f/1.8.
