I'm in the process of trying to choose which camera to buy for my 2nd digital camera.. My first one has been a very simple Olympus compact with 3x zoom. Now I want a camera with atleast 10x optical zoom, for shooting details that are far away, and I think an image stabilizer would be important to have.

I realize the Olympus C765 doesn't have an IS - is it really impossible to shoot sharp pics with the 10x zoom without IS or a tripod?

I've heard that Canon S1 batteries do not last very long. That's one reason as to why I may be leaning towards the Minolta Z series. What worries me about Minolta is that people have described Minolta Z1/2/3 to appear/feel like "non-quality"/plasticky.

An important factor would be speed. Wake-up speed and small delays between taking photos and a small delay after pressing the shoot button.

I'm really just looking for any thoughts/experiences regarding these (or other, comparable) cameras. It seems that the more research I do, the more confused I get. :/

Thanks a million :)
