Has the focus problem gone away? I'd buy an A2 if it has.

Hi, I would avoid this camera. It maybe the last in a series. Minolta maybe scaping it soon for a digital SLR. Canon's Rebel really hurt the sales of this thing. I just received my Minolta A-2 back from Minolta and they were unable to fix the focusing issues. Fortunately my dealer is going to swap it for a new one. I wish I would have read Jeff Keller's review before buying it! Greg

Interesting. I asked about focusing issues on dpreview.com, and the A2 owners thought I was crazy. They contend the focusing issue was fixed by the firmware upgrade, and all of them absolutely love the camera.

This is not entirely true...

Denial isn't just a river in Egypt. Mentioning anything negative about a camera over there can result in your head being chewed off. There were MANY threads about A2 focus problems there a few months ago.

I found this site the DPReview - this is my first post. I have had my A2 since June. Does it soft focus - honestly, sort of. I have received some tips (setting vivid color, focus hard, etc.) that has helped.

After a bunch of research I believe what is generally said on that forum - the camera truly records what it sees with minimal to no image processing. I know that using Photoshop and RAW files I easily make incredibly sharp and detailed images. It is not a camera for someone who does not want to post process.

The new version of Paint Shop Pro reads RAW files. Just opening these files in Paint Shop seems to produce sharp, vivid files like I received from my old digicam. For me, I prefer using Photoshop but Paint Shop could be a handy tool for something quick.

All things being equal, the focal range (28-200 equivalent), battery life and truly great ergonomics make this the camera I hoped it would be.
