Hi all. I was wondering if some of you can help me.
I have decided to buy the hybrid type of camera, that can take OK pictures but has a VERY GOOD movie mode.
At first my option was the Sony DSC-M1. after some research it seems to me that the Casio Exilim P505 does everything the M1 does, just better. better controls and everything. Great video at 640 with 30 frames per second until the memory lasts with stereo sound, zooming and all that. Some other cool features too.
When I was almost sure about it, I just came across the Casio Exilim-Z750. It appears to me that it does everything the 505 does in the movie mode but has the advantage of taking 7 MP pictures. Am I right to think the Z750 would be the best choice or should I stick with the P505? Maybe go back to the Sony M1?
I coul use some help here.
Tnx.

It's a tradeoff:

P505: Optical Zoom when taking movies.
Stereo Sound
so so 5mp picture quality

Z750: Only (really bad) digital zoom when taking movies
Mono (bad) sound
decent 7mp picture quality

Check out the P505 review on this site, and the sample picts from the upcoming Z750 review to help you make your decission. Also CNET is the only pro review of the Z750. Not a very good review, but they seem to like it (rated 7.6 out of 10. SD500 was 7.2 out of 10).

Tnx man. I didn't know the z750 didn't have stereo sound.
You know what? Surfing for a hybrid camera is making me crazy... I am surfing for 3 hours straight already! I always find one more camera to add to my list! When we're talking about an investment of 400 to 600 Hundred US$, I feel I need to research as much as I can.
I have found the Konica Minolta DiMage Z5. Looks pretty neat also. Opinions?? The thig has:

Same VGA 30 frames per second movies until memory is over.
Image stabilization (makes a differemce!)

But: Is the sound stereo or mono? Saves files as Mpeg_.MOV files. Not as compressed as Mpeg-4??
Tnx again!

I really don't know much about the Konica, as I restricted my search to MPEG4 capable camera's. Without the MPEG4 you are looking at like 14 minutes on a 1GB card. The files become too huge for my wife to do much with on her lil laptop.

Speaking about the konica, they also have a 800x600 mode on the A200 or something. BUT only 15fps. Still nice to have that resolution....

My Z750 showed up today and is charging as we speak. Might have time to play with it tonight.....

Tnx again! If you're looking for a hybrid with stereo sound (and optical zooming while filming), also check out the Canon S2...

JTL: I have already checked the Canon S2, It is a bit more pricey but that would still work for me, The thing is that I live in China and the S2 isn't available here yet. As for when will it be, I have received mixed answer ranging from 1 week to 2 months.

trisker2: Tnx man, I was also thinking about this "too big of a file" problem. Since you got you Z750 you can now tell me how does it compare with the P505. Movie mode???
Tnx again.

BTW, 30 frames per second... I have now idea if this is supposed to be considered ok or not. Jut for the sake of comparison, does any of you now how many frames/s does a regular logitech webcam has on its highest resolution mode? Or for that mather, any other regular webcam?

You are really teetering closer to the camcorder side of things. I'd really be inclined to recommend that you get an ultracompact camcorder instead. Are you sure you want digital camera?

Rex, tought about that, the other end of the spectrum.
Takig pictures is a must for me and I am not sure how well a camcorder would do regarding this matter. Clear enough to post on my website? end by e-mail? What would you recomend?

Tnx!
