I've been using Enhanced Matte paper with Matte Black cartridges in my Epson 2200, but wanted to try some Luster paper, put in Photo Black ink cartridge (tried 2 different cartridges) and it won't print. Starts to spool, then the Print Center just stops the job; no messages or warnings. It likes Matte just fine when I switch back. This is with Mac G4 OSX.2. Downloaded a current driver and still no go. Tried selecting various papers, etc. No go. Any advice appreciated.

I must be ignorant of "Matte Black" cartridges. In my 2200, I have a "T0341" Photo Black cartridge, and a "T0347" Light Black cartridge. Is yours something different than that? I've never had a problem like that, and I'm printing on Ilford "Smooth Pearl" paper, which I think is equivalent to "Premium Luster" paper of Epson. Have you tried Epson customer service, either on-line or via Web access? That might help.

When you change black cartridges, you have to delete the printer from the print manager and then restore it. That is how the driver knows about the change in ink. I also generally quit my print program and restart it. Hope this helps.

Thanks Lee! Deleting the printer then adding the printer again with exchanged cartridge did the trick. Allswell. Incidentally to John, there is a third black cartridge for the Epson 2200, in addition to Photo Black and Light Black. Matte Black (T0348) is very nice on Enhanced Matte paper, superior I think to Photo Black.

In many systems, you have to delete the 2200 driver and then add it again in the print manager or whatever to get the changed cartridge recognized.
