Got the S2!!!

Got the S2 IS today from my local reseller in Rotterdam, and i have to say it is absolutely fantastic! Simply put it's Panasonic's FZ20 in a smaller package, with most of its issues resolved (meaning it has excellent low-light performance) and a rotating lcd to top it off!!! Only the image stabilization seems a bit inferior to the Panasonic family, especially in mode 2. Otherwise (and i'm sure i sound like a Canon PR guy) it's simply stunning.

Most importantly, how is the noise and purple fringing with a full-sized image zoomed in to 100% on the computer?

Tell us more about the IS not being as good at as the Panasonics!

I don't think anyone will believe you unless you post some pictures taken with the camera.

Agree - until I see a posted pic, (and I think it needs to be the camera in a mirror) I'll consider this post bogus....

jbp1977: any luck on finding the s2? i'm trying to find something in the toronto area.... the prices i'm seeing online are 699 cdn$ or 499 usa$ (which makes it 75 cdn/60 usa more expensive in canada...plus taxes...). please let me know what you find out, i might be willing to drive to usa for a good deal.

any other suggestions? canada? buffalo area?

i'm in mexico city right now (cameras way to expensive here) but will be back in toronto for a few weeks in june and am seriously thinking of buying one of these then.

Bad news I'm afraid, We've just had word from Canon that they have granted exclusive rights to this camera for a period of one month to a Major High Street Catalogue.
This Catalogue shop will be selling at the full R.R.P. of £399.15 + VAT (£469.00).
