Hi,
I'm new here and I would need some help in deciding which camera to buy.
Budget: 270-350€ + ~100€ for memory card & batteries
Size: compact (doesn't need to fit in a pocket)
Features:
Megapixels: around 4
*optical zoom: most of the time the standard would be enough, but sometimes (during paragliding) the extra zoom would be nice.
*“image quality” is very important 9-10
*manual controls: yes I would like to have control over A&S to play with DOF, blurred background etc. Although 90-95% of the time the automatic mode will be used.
General Usage:
*What will you generally use the camera for? Photos during trekking, landscapes, family, photos during flights, some macros.
*Will you be making big prints of your photos or not? - No, 'll mostly be wathed on Pc, but want to have the option of cropping some parts
*Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos? some indoors ( maybe family events, when you can blind people with flash :) ) but mostly outdoors. Some night scenes from tripod.
*Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos? No. ( Paragliders but they are not so fast, maybe kids )
Miscellaneous
Are there particular brands you like or hate? No
Are there particular models you already have in mind?
Olympus C770, Canon A95, (?)Canon S1 IS
So image quality in auto/semi-auto mode is the most important for me.
I'm a bit afraid of Canon's lens error, but the A95 recieved many +s in reviews.
Does any of you had the oppurtunity to try the A95 and the C770 side-by-side? Which one of them will take better pictures?
The A95 has an AF lamp.
The C770 has no AF lamp, but has a stronger flash + hotshoe.
The C770 is a bit slower in focusing, but has 10x optical zoom.
In imaging-resource review stand that the A95 has a bit limited dynamic range ( I don't know how is relative to the Oly's dynamic range ).
Noise levels at higher ISO's?
From reviews seems the C770 has better quality lens (corner-to-corner sharpness, etc.)
Thanks
Botond
