so from what i've gleaned from the forums, it appears that the SD400 introduces added noise by cramming more resolution onto the same size sensor.

so my big question, given that the price difference between the 300 and 400 is about $40 online, and that i think it's worth it just for usb 2.0 and the light-sensitive lcd is this:

Can't I just set the SD400 to 4MP and get the same quality as the SD300?

it seems like the obvious solution, but i could be totally wrong. please let me know.

thanks again.

Hmmm, i'm not sure you'll got the same quality, for the reason that you 've got more pixels on the same size captor.
So each pixel got less luminosity, whatever it is the resolution you chose.
As you chose to take a pic in 4Mpx instead of 5 mpx, it doesn't work like 1Mpx aren't use for the photo, but by interpolating from 5 to 4.

hope i was clear enough ;)
