So, after 3+ years with my Fuji 2600 zoom its finally time to move on to something newer and better.

Ive really narrowed my search down to these two cameras. There were a lot that were close, (nikon 4200, sony W1 etc) but in the end Ive really settled on one of these 2.

Its a tough comparison though, because while there's tons of information on the Canon, the fuji is of course relatively brand new.

I really like the features & feel of the fuji - but ultimately I want excellent image quality. Im not too concerned about the lack of AF on the fuji as that is not the type of shot I regularly take, but I do want to make sure that for "everyday" photos it matches the canon.

Any advice from anyone who has had a little more experience with this model of fuji?

Hi,

I got A80 a few months ago and so far it's great. A bit large and heavy for a compact (hence I also recommend to have a play with Sony W1 in the shop) but the photos are very very good. A lot of manual settings, battery life is unbeleivable, camera speed/response is average but very acceptable and the possibility of additional lenses in future is very attractive. Better hurry though Canon is packing them in to sell the pricier A95 !?

Well the Canon A80 is on sale at Office Depot for 199.88 from Sept 2 - 4 if that helps you decide. Finding one is another story altogether.

Up here in canada its no problem - they're everywhere. The Fuji isnt readily available yet, but should be in a week im told. The price difference will be quite minor from what i can tell.

I own both digital cameras. The Fuji has a larger LCD but no low level focusing lamp. The Canon A-80 is more rugged but with a smaller LCD.

The Canon's ISO top limit is 400, the Fuji E-550 ISO top limit is 800. The A-80 is 4mp and the E-550 is 6mp. The E-550 has raw image capability, the A-80 does not. Look at them both. See how they feel in hand. Then make a decision.
