hello.
i have been reading through many reviews on this site, and im still not sure which camera i should buy.
actually i think the more reviews i read the more unsure i felt. :(

ive kind of narrowed it down to:
olympus c-770
nikon coolpix 5700
and a panasonic lumix dmc-f210[?]

previously ive owned a kodak dx6490, and i didnt like it at all. the colours seemed washed out no matter what settings were used, and i have weak wrists [ha] and the camera was obviously heavy because of the huge lense, so i took a lot of blurry photos.

right now i have a second-hand sony dsc-s85, its a good camera, the lense is amazing, but generally the camera is not powerful enough [3x optical zoom].

im looking for something with 10x+ optical zoom and 4MP+, and id like to enlarge my pictures... like so they could be framed and put on a wall?, so "noise reduction" is something im looking out for too.

ill mainly be using the camera for landscape photography, and portraits.
im trying to build a portfolio of my work, so this is why its so important i buy a good camera that i feel comfortable with.

im totally open to suggestions, the cameras ive listed are just to give you an idea of the type of camera im looking for.

i feel really disheartened after the disappointment that was the kodak dx6490, and im kind of afraid to buy another camera, incase its complete rubbish.

really i just want a good camera that doesnt weigh a ton, takes nice crisp "true color" images, and has full manual control as well as pre-sets.

my budget is like £400 at the very most, which is equal to $755, according to xe.com.

thanks. :]

I would look at the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5 Here is another good sight to take a look at it and read about it.

i'd go a step higher & get pana FZ20 instead, since it's still within your budget i think. it even won TIPA 2004 award for it's category. unless a new replacement coming out in 2005..

Both of the Panasonics would seem a logical choice for you - the FZ5 being very new and reletively compact - the Image Stabilisation is very helpfull and may help a lot if your hands are shaky. But don't discount the Olympus which will also give great results that lens is really sharp. If you are willing to play around initially then the Minolta A-200 (up to 8mp), which I have, is also very good and has Anti Shake (Image Stabilisation) - but only 7x Zoom - I am very pleased with mine. Check the reviews on those Panasonics - check out the sizes also - that may help sway you.
Get back to us if you are still wavering.
