I've got the sd500 and returned it for a replacement because I feel that there is something wrong with the camera. The pictures look alright from 25% actual size, but at actual size there is clearly bluriness to it. It's not from a focusing error because I've tried both center and the auto zone thing, but it still happens and the focus seems to lock onto the subject properly. There is plenty of natural light and I keep the camera dead still (even does it from on a table top), so it shouldn't be a result of movement of the camera when the shutter remains open. I've tried every possible mode and setting and it still does this. I've attached a picture cropped at 100%. I've also noticed that the top light is ALWAYS blinking to indicate camera shake and the icon in the bottom left is ALWAYS on.

My question is, since I don't have the new one yet, is this a problem with such small cameras and lenses. I have no confidence in my ability to get decent pictures with this one, so I"m tempted to just wait for the S2IS or get a Rebel XT.

I just got another sd500 and see that it does the same thing. Blurry pictures unless it's placed on a counter top, even though there is plenty of daylight coming in from windows everywhere. The camera shake indicator is always lit, and the top orange light blinks 90% of the time. Is this common to all small cameras? Would be nice if someone could respond.

No, it's not common to all cameras or all SD500s. Sounds like there might be a problem with your cameras. My SD300 took crisp sharp pictures right out of the box.

My second sd500 just can't get blur free shots even in total outdoor light. I even increased the iso to 200 and it still is just a matter of luck whether the pictures come out clear. I'm just going to bring it back and get a rebel xt. Maybe I was destined to move up to a dslr and this is fate giving me a nudge.
